Stephen G. Barts
Stephen Barts was born and raised in Laurel Grove, Virginia. He is employed by Virginia Cooperative Extension – Pittsylvania County as an Extension Agent, Agriculture and Natural Resources (Crop and Soil Sciences). Stephen currently holds the position of Fire Captain with Laurel Grove. Prior to be elected Captain, Stephen served at Fire Lieutenant in the Training Division.
In 2002, Stephen graduated from Dan River High School in Ringgold, Virginia. After high school, Stephen attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Stephen is currently certified as a Firefighter Level 2 through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and an EMT-Basic through the Virginia Office of EMS. Stephen also holds certifications in Vehicle extrication, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Rope Rescue Level 1, Water Rescue, Hazmat Operations, and Fire Attack.
Stephen has lived in Laurel Grove most of his life, with a brief stay in Blacksburg while attending college. While at Virginia Tech Stephen was recognized by the American Society of Agronomy as the 2006 Outstanding Senior in Agronomy. He is currently a member of several organizations including, Virginia Young Farmers, National Association of County Agricultural Agents, and the American Society of Agronomy. Stephen enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding four-wheelers.
