Different Types of Memberships
Active Membership
This is the most common type of membership sought after when joining our department. As an active member, you will be trained to participate in our Fire & EMS Divisions. You will learn live saving techniques and gain information that will enable you to help out during fire, rescue, and emergency medical incidents. All training is provided by local instructors from within Pittsylvania and Halifax counties.
Associate Membership
This membership is utilized by citizens that are already trained and affiliated with neighboring Fire & EMS agencies but would like to help out our community and department as well.
Junior Membership
This membership is for those citizens that are between the ages of 16 and 18. As a Junior Member, you will start your life saving training, as well as assist the department in fund raisers, community events, and much more. Once you turn 18 years of age, you become eligible for probationary membership.
Honorary Membership - Only available through membership recommendation
This membership is for those people who have performed outstanding services for our department or contributed in a significant way to the betterment of our department. An active member of our department must bring a citizen up for vote to at a business meeting in order to be eligible for honorary membership.
Life Membership - Only available through time of service to the department
When an active member has achieved ten years of active service with our department, they automatically become a life member. This is viewed as being eligible for “retirement” but yet they are still eligible to run calls and perform duties as they wish.
Probationary Membership
When a citizen submits their application for active or associate membership, he or she initially becomes a probationary member. While a probationary member, you will receive you initial orientation and training. You will also gain any certifications that are required for membership. Once you have been in the department the minimum amount of time required, you are trained, and you are ready to perform your duties independently, you will then be voted in as an active or associate member, whichever you have chosen.
Support Team Membership
Support Team personnel assist our active membership in multiple rolls. They assist in fund raising efforts; they bring food and water to members while on emergency scenes for long periods of time, and help maintain the building and grounds. These men and women are an essential part in the overall mission of our department.
